Mike Orlov is the Executive Director and Registrar of the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI), a role he has held since May 2019. With a distinguished career spanning over 35 years, Mike has worked extensively in publishing, media, and consultancy. His experience includes senior management roles at major UK publications such as The Mail on Sunday and the London Evening Standard and leadership positions in the GCC, where he launched and managed media brands. A Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management (FInstLM), Mike holds an executive MBA with Distinction and has dedicated his career to consulting, mentoring, and advocating for excellence in public service interpreting and translating. He is a passionate advocate for raising awareness, standards, and recognition for language service professionals in the UK.
At the LC Conference and IMLD Celebration 2025, Mike Orlov will present Public Sector Language Service Update. His session will provide an overview of emerging national standards, developments in the criminal justice sector—specifically within police and courts—and the NHS’s evolving approach to language services. With a critical lens on historical shortcomings, he will explore how the public sector is beginning to prioritise professional language services to better serve the public.
