Helena El Masri has been an interpreter trainer for over 20 years and is a DPSI Law-qualified interpreter specialising in the legal field. She has been a pioneer in online interpreter training in the UK, helping over 2,000 professionals gain qualifications through DPSI Online. In addition to her interpreting work, she teaches the Level 3 in Community Interpreting and DipTrans courses for Portuguese speakers. Qualified as a translator with the DipTrans in 2001/2005, she has extensive experience in both interpreting and translation.
At the LC Conference & IMLD Celebration 2025, Helena will present “Mastering the Art of Note-Taking for Interpreters.” Her session will explore the criteria for note-taking, covering what to note, why it is essential, when to use it, and how to apply effective techniques. She will guide interpreters on developing their own note-taking systems, emphasising key points to remember and the importance of structuring notes for clarity. Through practical examples and interactive exercises, she will demonstrate best practices to improve retention and accuracy. On behalf of Linguists Collective Agency, Helena aims to equip interpreters with the skills to enhance their efficiency, precision, and confidence in professional settings.Lee will present on “Attitude predicates and complementation: FACT, SAY, and Fiction.” His session, part of Words that Work: Language Solutions for Professional Excellence, will explore the nuances of attitude predicates and their role in communication, blending linguistic theory with real-world applications.
