Andrea Denby is an accomplished Hungarian-English interpreter and translator with extensive experience in legal, medical, and technical translation. A Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) and an Honorary Member of the Federation of Forensic and Expert Witnesses, Andrea is widely recognised for her expertise in language services. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Literature from University College London and multiple advanced qualifications, including the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) in Law. With a career spanning over 20 years, Andrea has worked on diverse high-profile projects, including family law cases, health and safety audits, and academic publications, while also mentoring aspiring interpreters and translators. She is fluent in English and Hungarian, with proficiency in German and a growing interest in conversational French.
At the LC Conference and IMLD Celebration 2025, Andrea Denby will present The Origins of the Hungarian Language and Rare Languages Related to It. Her session will delve into the comparative linguistics of the Hungarian language within the Uralic language family, tracing its origins to 4000 BC and exploring its relationship with Finno-Ugric and Samoyed languages. She will also discuss the historical migration routes of these language groups and the peoples they encountered, providing a fascinating insight into the ancient linguistic and cultural connections of Hungarian.
