At the LC Conference and IMLD Celebration 2025, Dr. Libert will present “Creating Words that Work: Vocabulary Design in Artificial Auxiliary Languages.” A very large number of artificial languages have been created as international auxiliary languages to facilitate communication among speakers of different native languages. The design of vocabulary in these languages is a crucial aspect of their development. Radically different approaches have been taken in this regard, and in this talk, Dr. Libert will examine which vocabulary design strategies are effective and which may pose challenges. His discussion will offer insights into the theoretical and practical implications of constructing vocabulary in artificial languages.
